For many years family constellation work was considered to be a method used in groups. In the meantime there is great demand for this work in an individual setting. What do family constellations in a group with the help of representatives and family constellations in an individual setting using figures have in common? What differentiates them?

Sieglinde and Jakob Schneider, both very experienced in each method of doing constellations, show how they currently do the work in this bilingual (German/English) DVD, which was filmed during their international training in a smaller setting in 2007.

The two constellation methods do not differ in the systemic and phenomenological fundamentals. The strengths of the group approach are that it sheds light on the hidden realities of families, shows the depth of the “movements of the soul” and makes it possible to directly experience an individual place in a family. In the individual work the facilitator assumes the roles of the representatives, the words used to bring order into a system and touch the client become extremely important and the many bonds of the soul can be seen, flowing together in the client's saying “Now I understand”.

Jakob Robert Schneider

Jakob Robert Schneider studied philosophy, theology, physical education and pedagogy. He has a private practice for counselling and group therapy, and gives family constellation seminars in Germany and abroad. He is an active member of the International Arbeitsgemeinschaft systemische Loesungen nach Bert Hellinger (IAG) [the international association for family constellation work] and is founding editor of the German journal, Praxis der Systemaufstellung.
